Milo Armadillo

I read about this book and pattern on a knitting forum. Milo Armadillo is a sweet story about a little girl who wants a fluffy pink rabbit. Her parents can't find one so grandma begins knitting one, but her pattern goes awry and Milo is the result. The girl is polite but disappointed. Everyone else has a pink rabbit. Milo shows her what he can do, but she always says that a rabbit would be faster, smarter, cuter etc. Milo decides to go to grandma's to be unraveled and re-knit into a bunny. The girl comes home from school and is heartbroken to see he has disappeared. She follows the yarn trail because now she doesn't want a rabbit, she wants her Milo back. Grandma repairs his tail and all is well again.

I downloaded the pattern and knit my own Milo. I will eventually read this to Colton, but right now he is little young to appreciate the story and he'd probably want to chew on Milo and I'm not ready for that. Milo has to go the yarn shop first. 

The Frog Prince

A friend of mine in another state is going through a divorce. She is a vibrant, confident, smart businesswoman and the divorce has been a long time coming. She wasn't expecting the roller coaster of emotions she has felt the past few months. Knowing that she has a good sense of humor, some of her friends have been telling her that someday her real prince will come, and that she just has to kiss a few frogs to find him.

Enter the knitted toy book that I've been having so much fun with lately....

I included this card made from my Hallmark card software

He traveled to her inside a large shoebox, wrapped in paper with the first page of sheet music from Someday My Prince Will Come printed over and over on it. 

 

"Here's looking at you, kid"

Hopefully, if my friend ever does kiss a frog, he will be a handsome, intelligent, kind prince

And if he retains a nasty habit, he'd better use a good mouthwash!

This lovely pachyderm is named Eloise. She is make of Tahki Yarn's "New Tweed", color # 60. The yarn is part Merino wool, part silk and part viscose. The pattern is from the book Knitted Toy Tales previously mentioned here.

Eloise is an experienced and efficient traveler. She can go anywhere with only one trunk!

 

Like many females, she does have a concern about knits and wonders if this yarn makes her butt look big.

 

I think she is cute even though I am a bit biased. The white inside her ears and at the bottom of her legs is wool felt.  

We've had a snowy day here in my part of Michigan and I didn't venture out to the post office to mail a surprise package to a friend. Once she receives her surprise (sometime next week) I will show you another knitted creature and the story behind the project. Until then, I think I am done knitting animals for a bit. Maybe. Unless the yarn for the rabbit really really really wants to be knitted this weekend.
